Family Discipleship Sundays

A New Rhythm in our Church to Raise the Next Generation of Disciples

Starting this Memorial Day weekend (May 26th), we will begin a new rhythm in our church called Family Discipleship Sundays! Family Discipleship Sundays at Mercy Church are an invitation for children ages 4 and older to participate in the collective worship service and actively participate in the life of the church.

What are Family Discipleship Sundays all about?

We see Family Discipleship Sundays as a powerful tool to partner with families in the vital task of raising the next generation of disciples. It is about empowering your children to actively engage with and grow in their faith alongside your family and their church family. This is more than just bringing your kids to church. By actively participating in Family Discipleship Sundays, we hope your kids will…

Be confident worshipers of Jesus once they age out of MercyKids and participate in the collective worship service on a weekly basis.

Develop a strong foundation of faith and a sense of belonging with our church body.

Recognize that their presence and contributions are valued, and that they have an essential role in the kingdom of God.

It is about empowering your children to actively engage with and grow in their faith alongside your family and their church family.

What does it look like to participate in a Family Discipleship Sunday?

Here are some tips on making the most of these Family Discipleship Sundays before, during, and after service.

Before Service

We will provide a Family Discipleship Guide to help you prepare your child(ren) for worship. Spend time talking together in the days leading up to a Family Discipleship Sunday. You may also preview and listen to the worship songs that will be sung or practice opening up God’s Word to that Sunday’s focus Scripture.

During Service

Children ages 4 years and older will receive an age-appropriate Growing in Worship Guide to complete during service. Encourage them and support them as they participate! And make sure YOU are also participating…kiddos will emulate what they observe you doing!

After Service

Spend a few minutes of intentional time discussing – What did they enjoy? What did they not understand? You may also consider enjoying a special meal or treat to celebrate.
