College Student, Do you know what God has for your summer?

by Scott Urbanek

When I (Scott) was in college, I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life. My time was mostly spent hanging out with friends, sleeping in, and eating Doritos until I felt sick. I loved Jesus but I didn’t have a vision for my life. I had no idea what I wanted to do after college and I definitely didn’t know what God wanted for me.

What I didn’t realize at the time was that Jesus is very clear with us about what he wants our lives to revolve around. One of the most important verses if the Bible, Matthew 4:19, says that Jesus calls his first disciples by saying, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” This is one of those verses that, if we are not careful, we miss the beauty and meaning behind his words. Jesus was telling the disciples that their ultimate purpose in life was to fish for men. These were the first words in his ministry. And Jesus’ last words of his ministry in Matthew 28 were similar, “Go make disciples of all nations.” Making disciples should be what our life is about. Right now, there are over 100,000 college students in the Charlotte area that are all asking the same questions I was asking myself at their age: What do I want to do with my life? What is my purpose?

This is what City Project is all about! It’s meant to equip you with the gospel to go out into any relationship, job, or place and be “fishers of men”. City Project is an eight-week discipleship program designed to train students to become disciples who make disciples. Whether students want to go into the marketplace or into ministry, City Project is designed to raise up students who know what it means make disciples before they graduate college. Students will leave City Project feeling prepared to take on the world with gospel, no matter the context. If students are willing to spend four or more years preparing for a job that they might be in for 30 years, doesn’t it make sense to spend a summer preparing to be disciple makers in order to make a difference in someone’s life for eternity?
