This Sunday we talked about knowing God more through prayer. One of the ways that we can pray is by praying through the Scriptures. God has given us His holy Word not only to teach us about Him but also to teach us to pray. This guide will serve as an example to help you pray through God’s Word.

As you read through the passage, let the truth of God’s Word weigh on your heart and then pray in response to His Word. Remember that Christ has set us free from sin and death! Read and pray through this Psalm in light of the redemption that is in Christ!

In praying through the Scriptures is a process. Here are three steps you can use:

  • Read God’s Word
  • Take a couple seconds to meditate on God’s Word
  • Then pray in response to God

Prayer Guide: Turn to Psalm 63

Example:

Read Psalm 63:1: “O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you;my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you,  as in a dry and weary land where there is no water.

Pray: “Father, I want to desire you above all other things. There is nothing in this world that can satisfy me like you. Give me a heart that longs for you more and more each day…”

Read Psalm 63:2: “So I have looked upon you in the sanctuary, beholding your power and glory.

Pray: “Father I have seen how great and marvelous you are. You are all powerful and glorious! Thank you that I can trust in you fully because you are in control…”

Read Psalm 63:3 Because your steadfast love is better than life, my lips will praise you.

Pray “Thank you for your great love for me. Thank you that you loved me so much that you sent your Son. There is nothing that can compare to your great love! I want to experience more of your love each day…”
