Easter is usually the biggest week of the year in the Christian calendar. As a new church, this may be one of the most important weeks in Mercy’s short history. There are two reasons this is such a big week. First, Easter is one of two natural times during the year where people in our community are ready and willing to come to a worship service. What an opportunity to introduce our city to the hope found in the gospel! Second, this Easter will be the chance for Mercy to set a tone for how we celebrate the gospel together.

So, we are asking every Mercy Church family member to pray each day this week for Easter weekend. Here’s what we are praying:

  1. That our friends around Charlotte without a church home would accept our invites and feel welcome at Mercy this weekend.
  2. That every aspect of our worship, on both Good Friday and Easter Sunday, would celebrate the hope we have in the gospel of Jesus Christ. This is our moment to proclaim our hope!
  3. That God would give us grace in the details. Planning two services for one weekend means plenty of opportunities for glitches. We don’t want to be a “show” but we do want to limit distractions in worship so that we can focus our hearts and minds on the gospel message.
  4. Most of all, pray God would save! One thing we are learning as a church is that God does actually hear and respond to prayer. Let’s make sure this weekend is covered in prayer, asking God to move in the hearts and minds of people as only He can. May God build on what he has just begun here in our midst. We will have baptism opportunities both services to celebrate God bringing people from death to life.

Mercy family, God is at work among us. I believe Easter will be a moment for us that we’ll remember together for a long time. I’m praying its one of those mile markers where we once again come to the end of the day and say “Wow. Our God is so big, and so good!”

So invite everybody and we’ll see you Sunday!
